Technical Evaluation

Let’s take an example of a URL that has similar products/content. Below are the URLs that have similar content.

http://www.abc.com/categroy1

http://abc.com/category1

http://abc.com/category1?ref=dgashjgdjt

http://abc.com/category1?sort=price

http://abc.com/categpry1?

The above are the URL structures that have the same content using different way.

To sort out the content duplication we can use the canonical tag in the header of all the above mentioned pages.

Now, how to implement canonical tag

The first and most important is to place the canonical tag in the header part of the HTML documents on every page mentioned above.

The Syntax will be

<Link rel=”canonical” href=”http://www.abc.com/categpry1″ />

Canonical tag and 301redirect are the same.

  • Before launching the canonical tag you need to check whether it has been implemented correctly or not. If you have not implemented the canonical tag properly it may create lot more problems for SEO. All you duplicate content indexed and ruin your SEO.
